自転車世界最速レース2008年終了
アメリカで自転車の世界最速を争うレースが開催されたそうです。
米ネバダ州バトルマウンテンでは毎年、人力駆動車で出せる最高速度を競う「World Human Powered Speed Challenge」（WHPSC）が開催されている。非常に真っ直ぐで平らな公道を閉鎖し、人力駆動車を走らせ、最高速度を競うというレースだそうだ。
その結果、最高速132km/hを叩きだした、Sam Whittinghamという方が勝利を納めたようです。

IHPVA speed measurements during the High Speed runs at Battle Mountain Nevada, September 2008. Highway 305 five mile course as surveyed and marked from the previous years event. Timing end position at end of 200M. Legal wind defined as less than 1.66 m/s with vane meter measuring 10sec average into wind direction.
